In operation from 2008-2013, the MMTI taught ObGyn and primary care (nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, physician assistants and family medicine physicians) providers and support staff how to integrate miscarriage management (MM) into the primary care setting. During the course of the project, 1,500 individuals working in diverse clinical settings in five states received training.

Clinical evidence supports offering women a choice of management options, including office-based management with medication or manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) with local anesthesia. The MMTI used a multi-faceted & systems approach that included didactic content, hands-on practice and service-delivery considerations including equipment lists and sample protocols.
